When you've found a good barber, the next step is to make sure you get the haircut you're after!
Tip 1: Tell your barber exactly what you’re after
This could be the name of the hairstyle, the type of fade or the length you’re after.
Tip 2: Find some photos of the hairstyle you’re after to show your barber
This is a great way to show the barber exactly what you’re after, especially if you’re not familiar with hair terms. Try and find photos showing different angles such as the front and back, this way your barber can easily understand what you want. Even if you can describe your haircut pretty well, showing a photo will make sure your barber fully understands what you’re after, so there is no confusion.
Tip 3: Tell your barber your hair type and any issues you have
You may have issues where your hair sticks out in a certain spot when it’s cut too short or you have thin hair etc. This way your barber can adjust how they cut your hair to make sure you don’t have any problems after.
Tip 4: Don’t be shy to tell your barber about any issues while they are cutting your hair
Just because you show your barber a photo and explain everything to them, they may make slight changes which you don’t want. So if you aren’t happy with how they’ve cut it, make sure you tell them. It is much easier to tell them then and there so they can fix it. And it also helps them know for next time. For example, you might want your fade to be higher, or your hair to be shorter on the top. At the end of the day, your barber is cutting your hair for you, not them, so make sure you are happy with what they are doing.
Tip 5: Make sure you go to the same barber each time so you can build a relationship with them
Being able to book a certain barber will allow them to understand your hair and to know what type of haircut you’re after. If you go to a barber that is only a walk-in, you could be getting different barbers each time which means having to explain your haircut every time and it could mean not all of them will cut it the way you like.
